Khartoum, March 1 (SUNA) - The Minister of Minerals Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Sadiq Al-Karuri has called on the Canadian companies to invest in mineral sector, particularly in mineral industries to make added value to the minerals, adding that Sudan is still exporting raw minerals including iron, which exists in all states of the Sudan.
Dr. Al-Karuri said "Despite the availability of ore iron there exists any factory, but there is only smelters for scrap iron."
The minister explained, during a meeting the Canadian Ambassador Tuesday in Khartoum, that Sudan needed the Canadian companies to engage into the field of mineral industries and provide alternatives for the mercury used in gold extraction in the traditional mining sector, which is considered as one of the ministry's priorities operations, pointing out that they are going to seek during a visit to Canada this weekend for participation in a mineral conference to be held in March in Canada, to invite the Canadian companies to invest in Sudan to link the relationship between the two countries with the economy.
Al-Karuri referred to the Canadian company operating in gold exploration in northern Sudan, revealing that it has a large reserve of gold estimated at 100 tons in a small part of the block given to it.
For his part, the Canadian Ambassador to Sudan Salah bin Daoud said that he would begin contacts with the Canadian companies to operate in Sudan, which he said they have experience and advanced technology in this field as well as their interest in social responsibility.
The ambassador explained that his meeting with the minister touched on the final arrangements for the participation of the Ministry of Minerals' delegation in a mineral conference to be held in Canada next week, which is to be attended by a number of ministers of minerals in Africa, praising success of the International Mineral Forum and Exhibition, which was organized at the end of the last month in Khartoum and was attended by personalities and renowned Canadian companies.
