The MP of Atbara River constituency of the River Nile State, has announced that several villages in the state have been isolated to curb the spread of watery diarrhoea.
MP Ahmed El Tayeb El Mukaberabi reported the death of four people and the infection of more than 43 with watery diarrhoea in the state. He said that the state Health Ministry has isolated the villages of El Shababit, El Godo, Sidon, and some areas around El Damer in an attempt to mitigate the spread of the disease.
Two brothers died at Makram district in eastern Sudan’s Kassala of diarrhoea and medical sources confirmed that dozens were infected in various areas of Kassala.
Several people were infected with watery diarrhoea at Safawa and Um Gazaz in El Gedaref and a number of them died, but exact fatality figures are not yet known.
In El Gezira State, Legislative Council member, Asmahan Adam Zakaria reported seven deaths of people in El Thora Moby locality and the infection of 27 in the south of El Gezira locality.
In Sennar the authorities reported that 578 of those infected with water diarrhoea cases have responded to treatment, while 58 are still receiving treatment. In El Mazmoum six people were infected with parasitic worms. A witness told Radio Dabanga that a child is in critical condition. He attributed the disease to people drinking untreated reservoir water.
