The Khartoum North and East Nile localities are suffering from an acute flour and bread shortage.
Bakeries in the two Khartoum state localities complain of a severe shortage of flour, after the daily quota decreased from ten 100kg sacks to just three sacks.
An angry resident of Khartoum Bahri (North) told Radio Dabanga that “many people queue at bakeries until midnight just to get some bread”.
Bakers in the densely populated El Haj Yousif district in Khartoum North say that they have not received any flour at all since Monday.
They pointed out that the price of a flour sack has climbed from SDG127 ($20.7) to SDG132 ($21.5) in two days.
