Japan Donates 2.1 Million Dollars for Combating land Mines in Sudan
|
06:43 PM March, 03 2016 Sudanese Online Sudan News Agency-Khartoum-Sudan My Library Short URL Khartoum, Mar. 3 (SUNA) - A press conference was held Thursday at the National Centre for Combating Land Mines in Sudan to declare the donation of Japan to 2.1 million dollars for removing land mines. It was announced that 1429 persons were killed and 585 were injured by land mines in Sudan. The State Minister at the Ministry of Defence, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Mohamed Al-Hassan, has affirmed Sudan commitment to Ottawa Convention on the combating of land mining, based on its belief that the removal of land mines necessitates extensive efforts of all countries in the world and the national and regional organizations in this regard. He said that Sudan is one of the African countries that are much affected by land mines because it has witnessed longest wars in Africa. He affirmed the keenness to make Sudan a land mine-free country by advent of the year 2019, referring to the official support and the external donations assigned for removing land mines. He appreciated the technical, material and capacity building support which is being extended by the government of Japan to Sudan in the humanitarian field and removal of land mines at the affected areas. The Ambassador of Japan said that the removal of land mines is not only for saving lives of people, but also aims to pave the way for development. Topics related to the subject or the author
