FOOD AS WEAPON… THE UNDER –REPORTED FAMINE IN EASTERN SUDAN
|
05:34 AM Oct, 22 2015 Sudanese Online Adaroub Sedna Onour- My Library at SudaneseOnline
Although many UN and other INGOs made several field-visits ,to almost all sites of eastern Sudan and conducted many need-assessment surveys by trained and professional assessors to assess the food security situation , which were reflected in alarming reports that suggested a highly probable soon-to-be acute hunger, as a result of an evident food shortage coupled with last year's less- than -usual seasonal rainfall ,not only in the east , but all over Sudan ؟ nonetheless ,the unelected new state-governors for the three states of eastern Sudan(gedarif, kassala and the red sea) …all non-beja, and purposely appointed to stagnate and oversee the current status quo ,ideal for the régime's anti-beja mode of rule, still turn a blind eye towards those horrifying indicators , preferring to depend on reports cooked in luxurious governmental offices in towns ,which are unethically over-simplifying and down-playing any probability of a would-be- onset of famine ,by merely depicting the soon-to-take –shape disaster as : a temporary food gap And ,thus, refuse to provide against the complexity of the looming crisis and the long-term intensity of the impact of food insecurity on the affected households and communities , which will render all appeals voiced by well-wishers and communal figures to urge the state-governors to respond …..totally fruitless .؟؟ Because the selected men are not delegated to be duly alarmed or pay close attention to the creeping catastrophe, but to ignore it.. which is ,unsurprisingly, the part and parcel of their assignment/mission.. which sits comfortably in line with the government's undeclared , but strictly-applied policy aimed at annihilating the beja ethnic group altogether . This marked and inhumane tendency to leave the vulnerable people to their fate, IS a conscious state-policy which would have been averted if the international humanitarian agencies were still here to intervene, but , then again ,this is perfectly in consistence with a long history of purposeful negligence and absolving of any binding governmental responsibilities towards sedan's indigenous ethnic groups in many similar situations that occurred at frequent intervals in the past , all over peripheral Sudan ,And nothing ,at all ,to be astonished at (the expulsion of the INGOs in 2005 falls in this context؟؟) BUT, perhaps, a quick glance at the policies exclusively directed against the beja-region and its indigenous people explains it all؟ Take, for instance, the thousands and thousands tons of gold extracted ,and still being extracted from the-now-exhausted-ARIAB GOLD MINES ,which would have made the beja-people the most prosperous and self-reliant in the whole of the east African region , ALAS, though ,all the revenues were, and are still being embezzled by the ruling corrupt absolutist intellectual groups of Khartoum WHILE the real owners of this irrecoverable wealth die of treatable diseases a few meters away from the project- site؟؟؟؟؟؟ Have we forgotten the mid 1980s famine of the last century which claimed a quarter of the beja people who perished by acute hunger, in a situation similar to this, when the central government adamantly refused to declare the region a disaster-area.,. despite the unprecedented drought which devastated the region back then؟.Just as was the case in Darfur, And to a lesser degree in the Nuba-mountains. ؟ didn't all those ,whom our stolen resources made fabulously rich and prosperous, slam their doors in our faces refusing to stretch a helping hand ؟.... Thanks, though, are due to organizations such like :wfp, Oxfam, scf, the red crossandcrescent, irc etc…without the prompt intervention of which, no sizable beja-people would have survived؟.. Here, let me not forget the tremendous efforts exerted , tirelessly ,in total dedication And self-denial by the distinguished professionals, The likes of : Frank Judd, Tim foster, Ted Horton, Nigel, John low, Suzanne Quinney , bill Barclay , Maurice Herson, Allison southern, Nicholas ,Melvin almond …. And many others who, jointly ,stamped out that disaster . BUT ,today( after expelling all the INGOs) the regime is freely operating off-the-radar, continuing its unethical policy of annihilating the indigenous ethnic groups of Sudan . therefore we should exert undivided efforts to make its devilish designs known to the whole world , But first we must start at home, with our own people, whom we should educate and enlighten about those designs and how best to invalidate and abort them . moreover ,we should consider a wide range of options and approaches of resistance, to realize our righteous, legitimate and easily- achievable objective of preventing history from repeating itself in the same lethal manner of the mid-1980s, by sending a crystal -clear message to the rocky-hearted tyranny of Sudan saying : look ,you savagely killed- in cold blood- our unarmed civilian demonstrators in 2005, when they were demanding their legitimate rights in their own native home-land, at a time when weapons were unobtainable and rarer than they are now ,but today arms are available locally and at reasonably low and affordable prices. And we have no illusions anymore, about your deadly proposals and understand, all meek and mild, your incessant attempts to wipe out our people with or without weapons ....therefore either you change your antagonistic attitude and/or fully realize that you are leaving us no option but to use the gun, justifiably, to survive .. or be killed by it for a just cause ,SO, the ball is in your yard … take either options because we have nothing to lose either way, AS we are now contemplating strengthening our ties with the irreconcilable factions up in arms seeking to remove ,NOT improve, The unjust, biased, anti-people and rotten post-independence political establishment . AND, yes, we should recourse to armed struggle-why not؟ if you are still persuading to sustain your unjust status quo of #####ng our resources after, falsely, classifying them as federal resources , and discriminating against us in our own region؟؟ We won't –at any rate- agree to open up a new page with your unreliable regime ,( which criminal curators are now preoccupied with thinking of leniency for themselves by publicly accusing each other؟) ,nor do we approve of a fresh start again from ground zero ,…to waste precious time listening to your usual boring cliché of bald-faced lies and shallow promises meant for political consumption and distraction ….Today ,we have risen up ,dusted ourselves off and learned a great deal from the killer-blow you dealt us in 2005.. hence, you need to be more receptive to our requests and better responsive to our demands ,because hopelessly hungry people can't be kept at bay forever , if they are denied the basic right to live a dignified and decent life , especially when their own survival hangs in balance……؟ Adaroub sedna onour
