Khartoum, March 11 (SUNA) - The Minister of International Cooperation and Rapporteur of the Committee on the Joining of Sudan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dr. Kamal Hassan Ali has listed the benefits that Sudan gains from joining to WTO such as the access of goods and commercial activities to the international markets, facilitation and removal of barriers before trade and drop of unilateral sanctions imposed on Sudan.
Dr. Ali said, in a radio conference Friday at the Radio of Omdurman, that Sudan would benefit from joining the WTO in terms of providing technical support from the Organization for least developed countries by training institutions and individuals and production cost reduction.
The National Negotiator for Joining of Sudan to the WTO, Dr. Hassan Ahmed Taha drew the attention to the fulfillment of Sudan joining to WTO in terms of its commitment with the agreements and the principles of the organization, pointing out that the importance of joining lies in the equality of all products and assisting the developing countries in the issues relevant to the trade policies.
Dr. Taha revealed that the drawbacks of joining to the WTO included the weak competitiveness of some sectors due to the lack of protection and support.
Dr. Taha explained that the negotiating team for joining to WTO was now working to convince all the member states on the feasibility of Sudan joining to the WTO during two years to help trade flow smoothly
