Thank you for the interesting piece. However I disagree with you in various parts in what you have seemed to condone being by default reality. That is the indisputable unity of the country called Sudan. The current Sudan is a collection and mosaic of vast groups of people who are different ethnically, culturally, religiously and economically. We have not joined hand in hand in this big geographical region by our own will. We have been joined together by the previous colonizers. Winston Churchill sat down in a cafe in London with a map and pencil drawing the borders for us. We did not hold referundums for unity or seperation. Our opinions have not been taken to decide on these issues. We inherited the status quo and our junk politicians just went with the flow that we are one nation and we were raised by the notion that we are indivisible. This is mere nonsense.
Given the above, I agree with you in one aspect, that a new form of decision making is needed. To do that a basic premise should be available for all ethnic and geographic groups in Sudan. That is the right of self determination. This is the mechanicsm through which we are going to create any new Sudan. We in north Sudan have to decide whether we want to remain united with other groups or not. In a similar manner people from the south, west or east have the same right to choose the course that best serves their interests be it political, economic or social.
People have to be free to be able to choose what form of country they want to make. I am quite sure when such freedoms and liberties are made available for the people to decide their destiny many new Sudans are going to emerge. Contrary to what you think. I for myself do not believe we are one nation for one country nor think that multi-ethnic or multi-cultural theories will work well for Sudan. I am all pro the seperation of Sudan into many smaller ones living in peace than the current champion of civil wars country we have. We should not take anything for granted, that we have these borders we inherited from the colonial power that we have to live with it. We do not have to. Should the liberties I talked about be available to me I will certainly advocate for the seperation of my ethnic groups and geographic regions. You will be amazed as to how such a new paradigm among the northern Sudanese is ringing many bells. This movement just needs lots of resources and dedication to expand, thanks for the war in Darfur. Tough luck ya Bashashsa and others who are waiting the dawn of their new Sudan, for indeed the new Sudan is certainly not theirs
