Economic Growth: Economic growth is the increase in value of the goods and services produced by an economy. It is conventionally measured as the percent rate of increase in real gross domestic product, or GDP. Growth is usually calculated in real terms, i.e. inflation-adjusted terms, in order to net out the effect of inflation on the price of the goods and services produced. In economics, "economic growth" or "economic growth theory" typically refers to growth of potential output, i.e., production at "full employment," which is caused by growth in aggregate demand or observed output.
As economic growth is measured as the annual percent change of gross domestic product, it has all the advantages and drawbacks of that measure.
Criticism of economic Growth The real GDP per capita of an economy is often used as an indicator of the average standard of living of individuals in that country, and economic growth is therefore often seen as indicating an increase in the average standard of living.
Four major critical arguments are generally raised against economic growth: [6]
Growth has negative effects on the quality of life: Many things that affect the quality of life are not traded in the market and measured and the market, and they generally lose value when growth occurs, such as the environment. Growth encourages the creation of artificial needs: Industry cause consumers to develop new tastes, and preferences for growth to occur. Consequently, "wants are created, and consumers have become the servants, instead of the masters, of the economy."[citation needed] Resources: similar to the arguments made by Thomas Malthus, economic growth depletes non-renewable resources rapidly. [7] Distribution of income: growth may reinforce and propagate unequal distribution of income

(Human Development) Human development Development is a human process in the sense that it is human beings and not materials factors that are the driving force for development. The energy and aspiration of people who seek development forms the motive force that drives the development process. People’s awareness may decide the direction in which development will take place. Their efficiency, productivity, creativity and organizational capacities determine the level of people’s accomplishment and enjoyment. What we call development is only the outer realization of latent inner potentials. The level of people’s education, the intensity of their aspiration and energies, the quality of their attitudes and values, skills and information all decide the extent and pace of development. All these factors come into play whether it is the development of the individual, family, community or nation or even the whole world.[3]
تقرير التنمية البشرية عرف (Human Development) What is human development? The concept of "human development", appeared for the first time in the 1990 Human Development Report (HDR), where it was defined as "the process of enlarging people's choices" (UNDP, 1990: 10). The 1990 HDR introduced this concept by stating: "People are the real wealth of a nation. The basic objective of development is to create an enabling environment for people to enjoy long, healthy and creative lives. This may appear to be a simple truth. But 4t is often forgotten in the immediate concern with the accumulation of commodities and financial wealth" (HDR, 1990: 9). Indeed, the concept of human development was motivated by a multiplicity of factors, namely: the conviction that not all economic growth led to expanding total human capacities; the confusion between means and ends in development strategy; the reduction of human development to the increase in "human capital", conceived of in terms of the profit that people produce, rather than in valuing human life and human choices that go much further than economic well-being. What measures of human development have already been established" The first HDR, published in 1990, proposed an index that would give a general measure of human development: this came to be known as the Human Development Index (HDI). This index contains three basic components: longevity, educational level, and living standards. These three human dimensions are expressed, for the purposes of measurement, by the following variables: the index of life expectancy at birth; the educational index, measured by a combination of adult literacy and the rate of attendance in primary, secondary and higher education taken together; and standard of life, as measured by real per capita GDP (converted to dollars using purchasing power parities - PPP). Apart from an aggregate and general measure of human development in any given country, the HDI makes it possible to place each country in a global perspective. In the GHDRS, countries throughout the world are classified into three groups: Countries with low human development (HDI lower than 0.500); Countries with medium human development (HDI between 0.500 and 0.799); Countries with high human development (HDI equal to or higher than 0.800).
