Tumadir, my sister, do you really live here?? I am not trying to be sarcastic or anything, but I was shocked with what you have said. The black man in America is free and can marry and lurke around any place in this country??
Tumadir, with all due respect, I think that you are completely disconnected and out of touch with the African American issues in this country. Do you know anything about the daily sufferings of these people starting with underfunded schools and other public facilites, institutional discrimination in employment, access to loans, and many other rights and previliges that white people take for granted and think they are entitled to just by the virtue of their skin color?; haven't you heard anything about the daily stories of police brutality, what about the Sira Leonean guy (can't remember his name now) who was shot 44 times by 4 white police officers in New York with out him raising a fist to them?? and then later on they were all acquitted of any wrong doing (of course by other white jurors), and the other Haitain man who was sadomized (not sure if this is the right spelling) by 4 white police officers also in New York, and what about the poor man in Jasper, TX who did nothing but hitch-hike at night, and to his bad luck, it turned out that those who offered to give him a ride are actually white supremecists who tied him up to the back of the truck and dragged the poor black man for several miles, and the next day they found his body parts lying a long these miles (each one apart ofcourse)? these horrible stories are not odd exceptions, they are just few of thousands of similar stories that have not been publicized. Didn't you hear about the racial riots that are now taking place in Michigan? Do you know the background to these riots? I will tell you now; a city that is predominantly black (92%) that ends up with an unemployment rate of %80, a city that its black residents are deprived of the basic human services, a city that is crippled by poverty, hopelessnes, and drugs, while across the river from that city lies another city that is predominantly white, with an unemployment rate of only %3, have the gracious malls, the high buildings, and prestigous restaurants. This is not the story of two peculiar cities in America, this is the story of black and white different and far apart realities. If this is not racism in it's ugliest form, then what it is?. You lived in Washington, DC, do you know the difference between SE/NE and NW/SW. The difference between complete darkness and sunshine, I would say.
Tumadir, I think you need to get more acquainted with black history in this country, study the civil rights movement and know the historical context in which it evolved; and stay connected with the African American issues because this is your new reality, you are raising your kids here, you are building your life here, you really need to gain full awareness of the social fabric of this socity, don't listen to the media monopolies here, all they are spreading are lies, they are deliberately "ignorizing" the public, distracting them and distorting the real concerns and issues. I am personally disappointed at many Sudanese in this country, while they are preaching racial equality and tolerence, they take no interest in reading deeply the dynamics and basic facts of the society they live in; they are out of touch with reality, and their understanding of the American/European communites that they live in is very superficial, to say the least. Finally, I would like to stress to you that this is not a personal attack on you; you are a strong, hard-working Sudanese woman, and I have nothing for you but respect and admiration, but Tumadir, you really need to learn a lot about the life of the REAL African Americans (not those on MTV or Black Entertainment channel).
