If you forget your Mac password, don't worry; there are steps you can take to reset it and regain access to your computer. Here's what you can do:
### 1. **Use Apple ID (macOS Catalina and later):**
If you are using macOS Catalina or later and you have associated your Apple ID with your user account, you can reset your password using your Apple ID. Follow these steps:
1. **Attempt to Log In:** Enter your password incorrectly three times.
2. **Reset Password Using Apple ID:** Click the question mark icon or "reset it using your Apple ID" that appears after the failed login attempts. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password using your Apple ID.
### 2. **Use Recovery Mode:**
If you are unable to reset your password using your Apple ID, you can use Recovery Mode. Here's how:
1. **Restart Your Mac:** Restart your Mac and hold down Command (⌘) + R until the Apple logo appears to boot into Recovery Mode.
2. **Access Terminal:** From the Utilities menu, select Terminal.
3. **Reset Password:** In Terminal, type the following command and press Enter:

resetpassword
```

```
3. **Change Password:** Reset the password using the `passwd` command:

passwd username
```
Replace `username` with the short name of the account for which you want to reset the password.
4. **Reboot:** After changing the password, type `reboot` and press Enter to restart your Mac.
