BEIJING (AP) - Trinidad and Tobago's Renny Quow clocked 45.74 seconds Thursday to win the men's 400 meters on the third day of the World Junior Championships.
American runner Justin Oliver claimed the silver medal with a timing of 45.78, while Britain's Martyn Rooney placed third with 45.87.
In the women's 400 meters, Croatia's Danijela Grgic finished in 50.78 seconds for the gold medal.
Jamaican Sonita Sutherland (51.42) and Nawal El Jack of Sudan (51.67) were second and third respectively.
In the men's 1,500 meters, Kenyan runner Remmy Limo Ndiwa won in 3 minutes, 40.44 seconds. Morocco's Abdelati Iguider claimed the silver with a timing of 3:40.73, while Bahrain's Belal Mansoor Ali was third with 3:41.36.
Kenya's Caroline Chekurui Tuigong won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase and set a championship record of 9:40.95. Romania's Ancuta Bobocel (9:46.19) placed second and Mekdes Bekele Tadese (9:48.67) of Ethiopia, third.
Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer clocked 55.11 seconds to win the women's 400 meter hurdles. Nicole Leach of the United States was second at 55.55, followed by Jamaican Sherene Pinnock (56.67).
China's Huang Haiqiang cleared 2.32 meters to win the men's high jump, while Estonia's Kaire Leibak claimed the women's triple jump gold with a distance of 14.43 meters.
In semifinals, Jamaica's Anasthasia Leroy was the fastest qualifier for the women's 200 meters with a timing of 23.57 seconds. Bulgarian sprinter Tezdzhan Naimova clocked 23.63 while Gabby Mayo of the United States finished 23.69.
In the men's 200 meter semifinals, Canadian Brian Barnett clocked the best timing of 20.96 seconds, while Ukraine's Dmytro Ostrovsky (21.00) and Estonia's Marek Niit (21.06) also qualified.
