Professor Mohamed Othman Saleh, the head of the Committee of the Sudanese Scholars, a religious body, called for men to marry more than one wife because of the increasing rate of single and divorced ladies, Quds Press reported yesterday.
He said men are allowed to marry more than one woman on the condition that they treat them equally and afford them the same lifestyle.
Saleh noted that there is a need for polygamy now due to increasing social problems, including spinsterhood and divorce.
Divorced women are in an urgent need to marry again, seeking chastity, protection and stability. Some of them are afraid of seduction due to their beauty and youth.
