Abubakar Waziri….a noble human and respected journalist by Abdul-Aziz Ali Omer
|
It has saddened me to read the news of the passing a way, of Mr.Abubakar Waziri, the former managing director of Communication Academy, External Media Council and Director –General of Sudan News Agency. He was also a competent and out-spoken Sudanese journalist. He departed after a long challenge with illness that claimed him. He joined the external media department at the Ministry of Information Abu-Bakr’s initial stop was meeting with Abdulkarim Mahdi, the founder of Sudan News Agency (SUNA) .He asked him to initiate work with him to utilize his extensive divers e knowledge as well as his courage and perseverance. He had that deep well of patience to review articles and news items. .The late Abubakar Waziri served on the editorial board of"Siyasa" that is apolitical journal in 1986.His meticulousness and professionalism is attested to by fellow-journalists. Mr.Waziri was responsible for statistics and population awareness at U.N office in Khartoum where he fought temptation due to his incorruptible integrity. He retained by merit the membership of National Press Council in several sessions. He took part in plenty of Press Council deliberations as he was well-versed in its rules, regulations and resolutions. Dr. Salah Ibrahim in his column:"Free opinion" described him as the bravest and spotlessly pure man. According to him, Waziri fed up with his job at SUNA left to Oman where published a special bulletin concerned with foreign Affairs of Oman. He also pointed out that he was highly commended by distinguished figures in the Sudanese media scene. Prominent among them are Professor Ali Shomo and Abdelkarim kabli, the well-known singer and U.N ambassador of Good -will. As Dr. Salah Ibrahim mentioned Abubakar's family has its roots in Egypt. He recounted that once Mr.Abubakar told him: An Egyptian customs Official lifted his gaze, he saw blue eyes. The eyes with the colour of sea for him were reminiscent of Waziri’s family. .He wondered if those eyes had an affinity or a link with Waziri's family in the Egyptian town of Mansora . "May be we are from the same country" a voice answered in amazement. The scene was at Cairo Airport. The eyes belonged to mr.Abubakar. Muhammad Saeed Muhammad Al-hassan, one of people who knew him at the working remembers him as a noble human being and respectable journalist. To all those who knew his magnanimity, his colleagues at the press circles and to his family, I give my heart-felt condolences. God bless his soul Abdul-Aziz Ali Omer Primary school teacher-Gedaref State.
