Biography
Snoop Dog was born Calvin Brodius in Long Beach Ca. in 1972. Nicknamed Snoopy by his mother because of his resemblance to snoopy the peanuts character. After a troubled youth that had some runs ins with the law Snoop decided to concentrate on music. Through his friend, Warren G, Snoop got hooked up with Dr Dre. Dre liked Snoops style and decided to feature him on his album the Chronic in 1992.
The chronic went double platinum and soon everyone was waiting for Snoops solo album to be released. Snoop didn't disappoint and dropped doggy style in 1993. It was the first album to debut at #1. Many of the hits off that album are considered classics today (What's my name, Gin and Juice)
A few years later Snoop dropped the 2nd album, the dogfather. It sold well but did not achieve the success level of doggy style.
With the death of 2pac, the indictment of Suge Knight, and the departure of Dr. Dre, Snoop knew it was time to leave Death Row. He signed with No Limit and dropped Da game is to Sold, not to be told. Following that up with Top Dog.
His next venture was to create his own label, Dog House Records. The first release was Snoop Dog presents the Eastsiderz in Feb. 2000. After that he went on to be heavily involved in Dre's next album, The Chronic 2001.
Finally, Snoop latest venture "Tha last meal" dropped in Dec. 2000. It is rumored to be his last record off of the No Limit label before moving over to Dog House. It will be interesting to see what the future hold for the original gangsta.
