Dr Assadour used to devote every thurisday of his private clinic to do Echo cardiography for free for patients who can not afford it as recommended by their treating physician, this will answer part of your question, sorry I will continue in English. Any way, I hired a Taxi to take this poor Guy and his son to Dr Assadour's Clinic in Nimra Itnain. The Driver took Five pounds for this trip. My Salary was only 140 pound/month. I could barely make ends meet for my personal needs, let alone sending money for my family. I sat in the reception room, waiting for the Echo to finish. All the time my mind was working hard. If I also payed the Taxi fair for the return visit, then this meens my budget for this month is in great juperdy. On the return trip, I decided to appeal to the driver's good heart. I asked him to wait for me till I take the pateient back to his bed. I came back to the driver Ya Wad Alam, this is your chance to do some charity work. I explained my dilema to him. He paused then he asked me: Ya Daktour, How much is your salary I told him: only 140 pounds. The driver just couldn't beleive it: You are a Doctor and they only give you 140 pounds? I replied affermative wa halfta billahi Alazim kaman. He told me, He used to give this kind of money to his assisant (Musaid ) when he used to drive his truck between Khartoum and Portsudan. He refused to share the cost with me as I offered it, and refused to take any money from me. Another example: I was working at Khartoum North Hospital and living in Khartoum. At the end of the day, one day my nurse caught me chasing the bus with all the croud, trying to get a seat(in thhose days, geting a seat in the bus or a Buxi, was a real acheivment). It happens, he got a nice seat for himself in the middle of the Boxi. He insisted that Either he will get off his seat for me, or he will come out and start the chasing for two seats in the next Boxi. I refused, I lied to him by saying that I was in huury and couldn't wait for a Taxi. He came out, got a Taxi for me. I payed 10 very valuable pounds for the fair. and that night I didn't sleep well at all, thnking about my dear 10 pounds.. This is the reason, most of our young doctors wanted to leave the country as soon as they finish their training. I could go on and on and talk for ever about those days. I know, writing in English is boring so I will stop here
