Protest: Join Africa Action at Sudan Embassy 8/25
Don’t Let the Sudan Government Get Away with Mass Murder!
Africa Action, TransAfrica Forum Lead "Day of Action", Protest at Sudan Embassy;
Salih Booker, Bill Fletcher Jr., Danny Glover & Emira Woods to be Arrested at Demonstration against Genocide in Darfur
WHAT: Protest & Civil Disobedience at the Sudanese Embassy to highlight the ongoing government-sponsored genocide in Darfur, western Sudan.
WHO:
* Africa Action and TransAfrica Forum will co-sponsor this Protest.
* Africa Action’s Executive Director, Salih Booker, TransAfrica Forum’s
President, Bill Fletcher Jr., Actor & Activist Danny Glover and Emira Woods of Foreign Policy in Focus will be Arrested on the Steps of the Sudan Embassy.
* Dozens of Activists and Advocacy Groups will join in the Protest.
WHEN: Wednesday, August 25th, 2004, 12:00pm (Noon)
WHERE: The Embassy of Sudan, 2210 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20008
As the UN Security Council deadline approaches (8/30), and as reports continue of atrocities being perpetrated in western Sudan, Africa Action and TransAfrica Forum will hold a protest at the Sudan Embassy to express outrage at the ongoing genocide in Darfur.
What is referred to as the humanitarian crisis in Darfur continues to grow, because it forms a key element of the genocidal campaign of the Sudanese government. But despite incontrovertible evidence of genocidal intent and actions on the part of the Khartoum government, the U.S. and the United Nations remain unwilling to confront this crisis and intervene to stop the violence. Their weak efforts at diplomacy allow the Khartoum government to continue to pursue genocide in Darfur with impunity, and without fear of sanction or intervention.
This protest targets the Sudanese government as the author of this genocide. It is the latest in a series of actions initiated by Africa Action, calling for an end to the genocide in Darfur.
Join us on August 25th to show the Sudanese government that we will not let them get away with mass murder!
