Job Description
Job Purpose:
Initiate Concern’s Health programme in West Darfur which includes establishing and integrating a health component into the ongoing nutrition programme (in El Geneina. Mornei and Seleia/Kolbus) as recommended in the March’05 programme evaluation.
The role also includes an appreciation of the coordination and integration of the community health mobilisation structures currently used in sectoral programmes.
Location:
El Geneina town and surrounding camps with regular visits to the Mornei and Kolbus/Kolbus El Geneina is the administrative centre for West Darfur.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop a health strategy (that appreciates the integration of the current nutrition, water and sanitation programmes) and an implementation plan with Concern staff in West Darfur as recommended by the recent evaluation and as outlined in the Nutrition and Health Proposal
Define the management and implementation structures required
Recruit appropriate staff to implement this programme
Provide support, technical and management advice to the team
Coordinate all health related activities of concern Darfur’s programme
Design a training/capacity building programme for the health staff
Ensure that the Health programme is carried out to well recognised standards
Facilitate the enhancement of a monitoring system for the Health programme
Facilitate the development of an information system for the Health programme using existing community structures
Co-ordinate the integration of Health, Nutrition and Wat / San activities
Link up with the Community Health mobilisers and their public health programme
Liaise and coordinate with the government, international agencies and UN bodies within West Darfur as necessary;
Ensure continuity and consistency in programme design and implementation across Concern’s programmes in West Darfur;
Facilitate regular coordination meetings within the Concern Community Health and Nutrition teams both locally and between the three programme areas;
Represent Concern on health and nutrition issues at relevant government, UN or inter agency meetings;
Monitor and update the nutrition/health database for all three programme sites;
Compile the monthly reports/statistics for Concern field management, the relevant government, UN bodies and partner agencies
Prepare/update the three month programme activity plan
Carry out regular field visits to monitor the work of the nutrition/health teams;
Manage the completion of nutrition/health surveys according to the survey schedule in collaboration with MoH and UNICEF
To assist in the mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS, gender, equality and protection into the programme
Participate in meetings with stakeholders, any other coordinating bodies.
Assist in Concern’s internal reporting mechanisms, planning and proposal development
Participate in any training deemed necessary to fulfil this role.
Liaise with other team members and Concern staff to deliver a high quality of service.
Undertake other related duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator /Emergency Coordinator/Country Director
Person Specification:
Essential:
third level in a health and/or nutrition related field
three years relevant overseas experience in emergency/insecure
three years experience in an emergency nutrition programm
proven track record in national staff capacity building/training and management
