Thanks Elkhawad for sharing this powerful 'new' Sudanese music... I followed alsarah's artistic steps over the past few years since she started her steady steps on the road of music and performing art at the Pioneer Valley Performing Art School in Hadley, Ma. She was, and still is one of the leading performers at Tamador's Brides of the Nile group.
Alsarah has studied music and performing art at Wesleyan University in CT with a major in Ethnomusicology. Her commitment to use art as a tool for social justice and liberation is very clear in many of her work samples she put on her website: http://www.alsarah.com and also in her daily life. when she was in college, she participated with a group of peace artists by performing on the streets in front of the Military Base of Westover, MA. She also performed ans spoke directly to Colin Powell, former US Secretary of State, on the crisis in Darfur in 2004.
Yes, I agree that alsarah would contribute a lot to the global ethnic music and art as expected from a Sudanese American artist and human right activist I like her blurb on her video clip:
Quote: qisas tayrah (flying stories) A music fusion sufi chant. A colaboration between the sudanese soul singer alsarah and american producer Cristos.
The video clip takes you on a trip from the mystics of Hamad El Neel in Omdurman to a Washington DC graffiti wall and New York City groove.
vocals & lyrics: alsarah music: christos - green light productions video: hisham - refugee club productions
