Thank you for your comprehensive and thought-provoking article entitled : How the military harnessed the African Union in the UNITAMS process to legitimize the coup.
I feel it is not the military that harnessed the AU to legitimize the coup… But Elsissi.
Elsissi pressured Elfeki to support the coup and negate the influence of UNITAMS. Elsissi cannot control UNITAMS but he can easily control Elfeki. Elburhan pleaded for help from Elsissi to negate the influence of UNITAMS through the AU mechanism which Elsissi can easily control.
Kaka has no problems with Elfekki . But his problems are with Hemetti who wants Chad to be ruled by the Arabs and not the Zagawa minority.
Elfekki dream is for another term at the helm of the AU . He believes that Egypt can help in realizing this dream. Hence his subservience.
Elsissi does not like UNITAMS because he cannot control it and because it is serious . The AU is not serious and is easily manipulated. Hence his preference and that of Elburhan.
Elsissi will make sure to kill the UNITAMS endeavours for democratic civilian transformation by intimidating Volker who is a civil servant and likes his well-paid job. Volker will soon be silent. Lebat will make noises but no action. The circus will continue until July 2023 when Elburhan or Hemetti will be President.
