AAMARP and the Artists Movement to Engage Non-Violence (AMEN) cordially invite you to its Art for Justice and Reconciliation Event You will have the chance to view the AMEN project work in progress, and to have a conversation with two prominent musicians: we will hold an event in recognition of the work by the AMEN Project. During this past summer, Artist Khalid Kodi organized a multi-ethnic, multi-religious team committed to using art as means of inspiring harmony. Their first project was in service to the people of Sudan suffering from the bitter history between Sudan and South Sudan. On April 21, 2012 fanatics burnt down a Church in Sudan’s capital of Khartoum, in the Al-Jiraif district. In addition to religious services, the Church also functioned as an educational and residential facility. The AMEN Project has worked all summer to produce new, large scale, high quality biblical paintings to be shipped to Sudan as part of a greater effort in rebuilding the Church. The AMEN Project has been communicating with groups in Sudan seeking justice for the incident and the artwork has spurred much discussion for efforts of reconciliation. You can visit their website at amen-projects.com People can view the works in progress, discuss the impact of art and culture, explore new music, and enjoy free food. Some will share a few words on the tension between religious and ethnic differences and how to address such obstacles. The event will also be featuring two prominent Sudanese musicians: Ajak Kwai – Singer/Songwriter from South Sudan And Abdalla – Flutist from North Sudan This is a celebration of peoples coming together to enjoy art and the expression of culture. We hope collaborations like the AMEN Project and by Ajak Kwai and Abdalla will symbolize real beginnings of reconciliation between war-torn nations with such great potential for prosperity. ADDRESS: AAMARP Galleries 76 Atherton St Jamaica Plain 02130 DATE & TIME: Saturday August 25, 2012 6PM – 9pm
