South Sudan Liberal Party calls to vote for Independence
After 55 years spent in the old Sudan, and few days before the referendum on Self-Determination, the South Sudan Liberal Party, inspirited by the great sacrifices made by the people of the south for liberation from oppression and discrimination, calls on the Citizens of the South to vote for independence for Suthern Sudan.
The attitude of many Southern Sudanese political forces and great portion of the public opinion in Southern Sudan stood for many decades for Sudan's unity, build on the basis of justice and equality. Participants of Juba Conference in 1947 , as well as the leaders of Southern Party , the Liberal Party , the Federal Party, SANU, etc. have all supported the Unity of Sudan, based on the foundations of federalism and granting the rights of the regions and marginal areas. However, the Northern elites and leaders of the old Sudan has recoiled from all agreements and promises and committed war crimes and crimes against humanity towards the people of South Sudan for more than 55 years, which is the age of the Sudanese state.
Nivasha agreement was the fruit of the struggles of people of South Sudan. If it has been bound on Good Will, it would have build a base for the Unity of the country on new basis. However again, the Northern leadership of the National Congress Party has done all it can to fight the people of the South and to provoke differences with its political leadership. The insistence of the National Congress Party and leaders of the northern parties on Islamic law , centralist state and racist tendencies has killed any hope of Southern citizens to gain equality and dignity in a united Sudan. What is going on in Darfur prove that the northern leaders had not learned the lesson, and still insist on walking the old road, which produced wars and destruction.
The people of South Sudan has all the natural and moral rights to build their own independent state. Here we salute the struggle of millions of martyrs, wounded , disabled and displaced citizens who paid the ultimate price for the independence of South Sudan. The vote for Independence is the biggest honor of the struggles of these heroes.
The nascent state of South Sudan must be a democratic and modern state, where all citizens enjoy the same rights and duties. The international community will support our commitment to human and citizen rights, which will provide an alternative model of governance, society and state different from what prevails in the Old Sudan, which we bid it a farewell.
The South Sudan Liberal Party while calling on the citizens of South to vote for independence for Southern Sudan, calls also on the northern public opinion and northern political forces to recognize the outcome of the referendum, and to recognize the new independent state of South Sudan, in order to ensure good-neighborly relations. SSLP calls on everyone to hold the restraint and caution and not yielding to provocations and shouts for war.
The South Sudan Liberal Party reaffirms its support for granting dual citizenship to nationals of the two States in case they wish to, and the enforcement of the Convention for the Four Freedoms between the two countries, to preserve the historical relations between the two nations.
