Osman Hussein and the music of eternity

Sudanese are still grieving for their beloved musicians Osman Hussein, who in June last year, joined the heavenly choir.
Osman Hussain Mohamed Altoum a traditional singer was born in the village of Maghashi, center of Northern Sudan in 1927, to Fatima Al Hassan Karrar.
In his childhood days he studied in "Khalwa" school for children and later learnt the profession of sewing, knitting and playing the Oud: a string musical instrument which is always connected to the Sudanese modern era music. He was also a superb trumpeter.
"The spring of life died", was the caption of the Khartoum newspaper, the day artist Osman Hussain died; a man who had used his musical gift to contribute in forming the conscience of the Sudanese people.
Journalist Yousif Gabbani in lamenting Hussain's death said: "Osman Husain means the end of the Sudanese mood inspired by him as he was beloved by most of the people."
"He has a great secret because his songs are true as well as the lyrics; his sound is a blend of happiness, respect, love, and amusement. Words cannot describe him" he said.
Late poet and radio presenter Ahmed Mohamed Saleh believed that during the forties, a distinguished generation appeared consisting of a group of artists. This after the "Haqeeba era" - is considered as the Sudanese golden musical era.
This generation introduced music as a key complement to the songs and Melody. Osman Hussain and other prominent stars like Ahmed AL Mustafa, Said Khalifa, Ibrahim Al Kashif, Osman El Shafie, Altaj Mustafa, and Hassan Atiya belonged to this generation.
Poet Motaz Abdel Ghayom of Shambat agrees with Youssif Gabbani that; "The great artist Osman Hussein is one of those who developed the Sudanese music.
"I believe that Osman Hussein is one of the first artists who introduced music distribution." He told me.
Sudanese heartbeat
Osman Hussein sang lyrics of Hussein Bazraa, his fellow in Wadi Saidna School 1949 such as ‘gharad al fagr', ‘alghubla alsukra', ‘kaif la aashiq jamalak' and ‘al farash al hair' which saw a major turn over in the artistic scene due to its fabulous tunes by using modern music instruments at that time.
Though dead and buried, director and radio presenter Yasir Mohamed Bashir believes "the late Osman is still living among us". "He is one of those who have united the sentiment of the Sudanese people by their songs as one of forerunners of the string instrument school and the modern Sudanese music." He said.
Tribute
In a tribute to the singer, Yasir Bashir said "Osman Hussein started as a chorus member or as it called ‘Shayal' with his brother Taha Hussein and as Oud player with the singer Abdel Hameed Yousif, he also formed a duet with Hussein Bazara meanwhile he sang lyrics of many poets."
Poet Hussein Bazara, with a crying heart said, "Osman Hussein was distinguished his honesty." He asked that God's mercy will rest on him.
Omdurman Radio presenter, Omer Al Juzali lamented in his weekly program (Awtar Alleil) said "Osman Hussein used to love Sudan very much; he used to tell me ‘I can't travel and spend days abroad. And I don't feel comfortable unless I am back in Sudan and with my family in particular."
Speaking from Cairo, singer Abdel Kareem Al Kabli expressed his grief with these words; "he is spirit of angel in a human body.......his kindness is like children playing in a garden...... his tenderness is reflected in his sweet music."
