Oman to build village in Darfur shortly Khaleej Times
1 July 2010 MUSCAT — A new village, entirely funded by Oman, will come up shortly in Darfur in southern Sudan. The agreement for setting up the ‘Halouf’ village was signed at Sudan’s Humanitarian Affairs Ministry in Khartoum on Tuesday by the Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) with the contracting company. Oman’s Ambassador in Khartoum Abdullah bin Rashid Al Midelawi signed the $1 million deal on behalf of OCO. The village will consist of 40 houses and utility services, a mosque, health centre, school and water station. Sudanese officials, attending the ceremony, thanked the sultanate for its support to “enhance security, stability and development in Darfur, addressing the humanitarian needs and encouraging the voluntary return of displaced persons to their villages in Darfur.” Meanwhile, Palestinian Local Government Minister Khalid Al Qawasmi opened the Muscat Secondary Girls School in Kafrai in Jenin, north of West Bank, in the presence of senior OCO officials. The new school, constructed at a cost of $1.3 million, is the thirteenth to be built in Palestine by OCO. It has 15 classrooms and is meant to accommodate 600 students.
