No norther should deny the fact that Southerners have been discriminated, oppressed and deniyed basic citizenship rights by their northern fellow citizens. AT the same time we should realize that what happend and still happening in Sudan is no difrent from what happened and still happening across the balck continent. The political boundaries of Africa are aribtray that brought diferent ethnic groups together. Slavery is a common practice in Africa and reflect tribal conflicts over political and ecnomic dominance. The influential African tribes of West Africa were responsiple for capturing members of inferior tribes and selling them to the White slave traders. Sometimes influential tribes abduct other tribes members and use them as free labour. What happened in Sudan is in no way diferent. The North itself was once subjected to slavery by Arabs and Turks of Egypt. The issue now shouldn't be about appology of one group to another for the past mal practice. The issue facing us today is how could we build trust between Northerners and Southerners and succeed in forming a country in which each citizen is entitled to equality and justice. Under current circumstances of flameable tension, an appology will increase the tension than decrease it. Many angry Southerners - and they have all the rights to be angry - will take this appology as weakness and encourage them to accelarate the war machines to commit under such anger horrible and tragic incidents against the northerners. The right time for appology, if there is any need for one, is when peace prevails and solid grounds for conciliation is established.
