Dear Mr. Osman Mohammed Salih
I hesitated for long to comment on your intervention regarding Faisal Taha. I am one of those who have been admiring the clear way you write your interventions and the clear ideas you express. I also recognize that my admiration or non-admiration of your writing does not in any way add or subtract anything to your stardom in the Board.
However, recently you have mesmerized me. In three instances, I found myself disagreeing with you. The first time was in the post about our able and nationalist ex-foreign minister, Mr. Ibrahim Taha Ayub. In that post, you unnecessarily sided with Faisal, and you had an unfortunate comment on my rebuke of Faisal. The second time was about Mohammed Hamid Juma, in which you came out in clear defense of Mohammed Hamid Juma and threatened to retire from the Board and, ultimately, leave the Sudaneseonline.com if Mohammed Hamid is forced out. The third instance is your indirect defense of Faisal about his indefensible racial views.
About the lunacies of Faisal Taha, our sisters Amna Mukhtar and Tragie asked you a direct question as to whether you agree with Faisal’s ideas or not. You apparently dodged the question and was non-committal. It is not enough to say you do not agree with armed struggle. Armed struggle in the marginalized areas of the Sudan is necessitated by obvious reasons of which all political forces in the Sudan have recognized. Consequently, any person reading your comments may reasonably conclude that you perhaps tacitly approve those rotten ideas of Faisal.
You know very well and I very much trust your intellect, that there is no race that God has created as uncultured or criminals, as Faisal would want us to believe that the so-called pure Arab or Nubi race to be free of crime. Culture is a relative term, and the characterization of certain races as lacking culture brings a person believing in such lunatic idea closer to Hitler and the Boers of the old South Africa, the proponents of Apartheid system
According to my humble understanding, crime is a deviant social behavior and is created by economic and social conditions. Those socio-economic conditions exist in the Nubi North Sudan as well as in the Black Southern Sudan. Criminals could therefore be found in the North and the South. I do not believe all the prisons of the Sudan are free from a Nubi convict.
Regarding the armed uprisings or struggles that characterized the today Sudan, they did not come out of the blue. They were the result of historical, social, political and economic inequalities that pervaded the Sudan since 1956, which have been recognized by all Sudanese, except Faisal. These factors have and are still threatening the unity of our country. If we therefore adopt the lunacies—and I insist in calling these ideas lunacies—of Faisal, I do not see any hope for a united Sudan. Once more, I appeal to you to give us your opinion about the trash Faisal constantly writes such that we do not make assumptions that may be unfair to you.
