In reference to article 40 (1) (2) of the Sudan Constitution 2005 which guarantees our rights to participate in the presidential election, we have grave concerns that we may not be able to exercise our rights based on the following indications: First, the exclusion of the Sudanese in Canada from the election process. Second, challenging requirements to vote for many of us in terms of the proof of Sudanese citizenship. Hence, we request the following: 1) Given the large numbers of eligible Sudanese citizens in Canada, we should be accommodated and allowed to exercise our right to register and vote from Canada. 2) In recognition of the fact that valid Sudanese passports as a condition for election will deny majority of the Sudanese abroad of their voting right, we request the consideration of their alternative documents that prove the Sudanese citizenship for instance citizenship certificates/cards, 5-year residency permit. 3) Ensure accessibility to Sudanese citizens to vote from Canada. Some measures may include establishing some centres in larger urban areas and/or registration and voting by mail.
