Dear Altahir Eid Mubark You wrote
Quote: I wonder if you mean the late Abdullah Abdelrahman, a former diplomat, and a member of the Arab Socialists Organization at the University of Khartoum who was injured in October demonstrations inside the University of Khartoum. My understanding that the name of the political organization which was founded in 1959, and was active during October 64 was the Arab Socialists Organization and not the Ba'a th Party
I beg to differ. I think itis the high time for the Baath parties in Sudan to open their files on the Baath role in the Sudanese military establishment in general, and the military coup of 1990 in particular, and develop their critique to their role in Ramadan military coup. This is a major challenge particularly to the Sudanese Baath party which is advocating to adjust the Baath ideology to the Sudanese reality. Infact, few months ago, I read in another forum, a critical analysis by a former Baathist army officer to Ramadan military coup You wrote
Yes, I am familiar with the history of the Arab Socialists Organization, the Baath, and other Arab nationalist movements in Sudan, and I also know many members of this organizations, but I didn't join the Arab Socialists Organizations. Several members of my maternal family joined Arab nationalists organizations in 1960s, like my aunt Dr. Kawthir Shibeika who was elected as the only representative of the Arab Socialist Organizations at the Khartoum Universty student union 1967- 1968, and my late uncle Hisham Mekki Shibeika who was a leader in the Sudanese branch of the Arab Nationalists Movement which led by Dr. George Habash at that time. I was familiar before 1970 of the presence of Baathist elements in the Arab Socialists Organization. On a personal level, the late Abdullah Mohamed Abdelrahman was a friend to my family, and to me. I used to meet him when I was a student at the University of Baghdad, and he was a diplomat in Damascus in 1976. I hope you can shed more lights on his role in October revolution. May Allah bless his soul, and the souls of Ramadan martyrs Regards
