Yes, please submit all what you want, I already have the texts presented online in "Diwan al-arab", but if you have published other texts it may interest us as well (did you publish some texts in books as well?). Of course, we'll start the project with short texts (preferably short stories), so that we can present it quickly online, but every thing is welcome.
If you know some other Sudanese writers interested in this project, please forward them the message.

I will be delighted to participate in this project by my modest works, but
if we going to cooperate as partners, I have two conditions to go on. That
you should but my name and picture in every single translated text of mine,
just to reserve the copy rights, and you should promise me that you will not
publish any work of mine in books without informing me.
Sorry if I stipulated the above conditions, but those are my only two

As a writer myself, I fully understand your conditions. So, we will of course put your name and photograph with the text (we'll do the same for every author, unless they don't want the photograph, which is sometimes the case).
As explained in the text of the project, this will be a non profit website, so we will not sell these traductions, nor publish it outside the website (if, later on, an editor contacts us in order to publish a book, the agreement of every author is of course needed, as the law requests it)
So, our team will select some texts in August-September, then we'll contact again every author to ask again if he agrees to see one (or more) of his texts translated on the website, and we hope to put the texts online beginning of 2007

Dear Sir,
Our University exists since 1834 and is located in Brussels, capital of Europe. We have a department of Arabic Language and Literature, where we train students in BA and MA, as well as PhD (more information about our university on www.ulb.ac.be)
Concerning the choice of Sudanese Literature, it comes from my personal interest, that I try to share with my students : I am sad to see that Arabic Literature (in the Arab world as well as in the West) is often seen as Egyptian and Lebanese, neglecting the fact that other countries have produced and still produce today authors as well, like Sudan, Mauritania, Irak, the Gulf area...
If you take the example of Sudan, many Arab intellectuals just know of Tayyib Saleh - he's also the only Sudanese author whose work has been translated into French. I've read works of authors like Ahmad al Malik and Hamadnallah, for instance, I liked it a lot and I wanted to made it known in Europe.
Finally, though i've not yet been in Sudan, i travelled a lot in East Africa, and I did my Ph D on kinubi, a language spoken by the Nubis in East Africa and closely related to Juba Arabic. I collected oral traditions of Nubis from Kenya and Uganda, it has been edited in Kinubi and English by Lincom Publishers: 'Kinubi Texts'. I am currently preparing another bilingual book (english-juba arabic), texts collected among South Sudanese living in Cairo. It goes about local traditions, every day life, customs from Southern Sudan.
