Quote: short fact This was a particularly arduous shoot with filming taking place through the night, at the crack of dawn, in smelly waste depots and noisy London streets. Our cast and crew were tireless in their efforts and no one was more dedicated and professional than Issam El Khawad who played the main character, also called Issam. We were all devastated when we found out that Issam died on November 1st 2007 when his motorcycle was hit by a van in central London. The film could not have been made without Issam and his renowned spirit of adventure and lust for life. He was a non-professional actor, with a family to support, working fulltime as a Producer/Translator for AP and Sports News Television. Despite these obligations he jumped at the chance to make a film of this nature. He was never afraid to take risks. He was fearless in his approach to acting, trying anything from repeatedly rummaging through rubbish to running through a London street at five o'clock in the morning, screaming at the top of his lungs. He also worked hard to try to better the lives of others. When we first met he had just come from a job translating in Darfur. He was also a leading activist in the campaign against female genital mutilation. He was a loving and much-loved man. At his funeral in Sudan over 2000 mourners attended. His loss has deeply saddens all who knew him. We would like to dedicate this film to Issam and his family. He is survived by his wife, Joy and three children, Sara, Ziyad and Sami who was born shortly after filming was completed
