Re: تساؤلات معاوية يس و حزب البهجة الاسلامية (Re: Elmekki)

    Salam Ustaz Elmekki
    You asked:
    and
-أوضح الاستاذ معاوية ما يعود على الجبهة الاسلامية من فوائد وبقائية بسبب ذلك التحالف ولكن ما هي مصلحة الدكتور قرنق من دخول تحالف من ذلك النوع؟
From my following of the events and talking to many southerners -including posing direct questions to Dr Garang- it became clear to me the overwhelming majority of the Southerners I know are giving up on the idea of living in a united Sudan and Garang despite his talk -and I believe he is serious about this- about a united Sudan is under tremendous pressure from his southern constituency and the international community to concentrate on what stops the war and achieve Khartoum acceptance of selfdetermination. Many southerners see this as the way out of a relation that did not work. I remember asking Garang back in 1991 -before the division within the SPLA- how is he going to continue fighting if a majority of southerners do not see their future in a united Sudan? His words that I will never forget were: "when I cross the river if my soldiers refuse to cross with me then I have to turn back". For me this answer was a clear indication of what was going to happen in the future. Southerners are not going to fight forever on behalf of northerners for a "new Sudan" especially when their perceived allies within the NDA can not -or do not want- make up their minds about what do they want for Sudan and what is needed to have a truly united Sudan where unity is in the hearts and minds of all the people of Sudan and not disparate visions of people who can not accept they are equal and not prepared to accept each other without ethnic and cultural beliefs in superiority.
The current mediators made it clear they are not in the business of changing governments and their sole objective was to stop the war. If it wasn't for Egyptian intervention Southern Sudan would have been in its way to statehood few years back.
The way I see things happenning now is that if signing a piece of paper about an alliance with the NIF as the price for getting the NIF signature on a future referendum on self-determination then Garang will sign because this is what his constituency is after. At the moment the southern constituency only concern in the north is in making sure whatever is signed is self-determination and not what is going to happen between the NIF and the northern population and many leading Southerners believe that their biggest asset in guaranteeing a referendum result that leads to a separate south is the continuation of the NIF with its ugly policies and oppression.

    You also asked:
-هل ستوافق الولايات المتحدة ، راعية السلام،على تجييره لصالح دكتاتورية ثنائية جديدة؟

I think Sudan is just an inconvenience that the Bush administration wishes it to go away. As long as they can have an agreement signed that can provide them with a foreign policy "success" and as long as they believe that they are able to contain the NIF over the issue of terrorism then they will remove Sudan from their agenda. NIF became very skilled in playing the public relations game -although using mercenaries- and as long as the news from Sudan could be hidden away then the NIF will be content and the Bush admin will also be content. Democracy and human rights are not the overriding concerns, business deals are.

Our problem in Sudan is not just the NIF. Our problem is our political system and its leaders. The leaders of the main opposition groups failed for 14 years to inspire the Sudanese people and this is caused by many factors but the main ones are their dishonesty when it comes to the major issue of North-South divide. They mutter proclamations declaring their democratic credentials while at the smae time their actions are further expansion of the old failed domination agenda. The other main problem is the fact that they are simply not up to the job of leadership. They lack the basics that could allow them to make successful leaders and I dare to say they are the worst advertisement for Sudanese in terms of ability, knowledge, charisma, conviction, or carriage. They inflicted their ignorance, dithering, and double standards on the opposition and the hope of building a united democratic Sudan.
It is shameful that for the last 3 or 4 years these so called leaders did not dare to meet the Sudanese in their exile. I can say this about UK as they never stopped coming to London but always hide themselves. The only exception is Garang as in all his visits to UK he addressed several public meetings and prepared to face Sudanese and discuss issues with them.
I hope Moawia respond to your questions as well.
    Regards
    Zaki
