Salam Dr Adil The Arab press is always behind. This report was issued by the UNEP last July and the full report could be downloaded from the link below:
http://sudanreport.unep.ch/UNEP_Sudan.pdf Just be warned it is a hefty document at 35MB
After reading the report I was struck by the following among other things:
1. No access to the Meroe Dam site
2. No full inspection of the refineries in Northern Sudan (only a site meeting in Port Sudan refinery)
3. No details of the main industrial complex of Khartoum North (Khartoum Bahri) or other pollution sources along the Nile within Khartoum province.
4. No visits to sewage treatment facilities in northern Sudan.
5. And do not ask me about Kajabar and the rest because I do not think this is a comprehensive assessment given the omissions mentioned above.
Given the limited access given, I am surprised that the UNEP made the following statement: "The number of sites visited was considered sufficient to evaluate the environmental governance of industry in Sudan; the assessment was supported by an analysis of both general and site-specific legislation and enforcement practices."
The report was also very weak on the issue of integrated legal framework for interdependent issues of environmental protection, occupational health and industrial safety.

Zaki
