وصلني هذا البيان للتو، تم إطلاق سراح وائل بكفالة لكنه تعرض للتعذيب. وفيما يلي شهادته متضمنة في البيان. وائل قد تعرض للتهديد بالاغتصاب، والضرب وهو معصوب العينين، والربط إلي الكرسي....
وقد أثبت زميله الفاتح أنه أيضا قد تعرض للضرب علي الوجه، والقدمين (مايسمي بالفلقة falaka)، الإجبار علي شرب كميات كبيرة من المياه، والتهديد بالقتل، والضغط الشديد علي معدته، وأصناف أخري من التعذيب

Update: Member of SOAT student network arrested in Khartoum
Waiel Taha, student and active member of Sudan Organisation Against Torture (SOAT) student network in Sudan, was released on bail on the early hours of the morning on 7 January 2004. He was charged by the Chief Persecutor of the Crime Against the State under article 144 (Intimidation) and 182 (Criminal Mischief) of the Penal Code (1991).
During his detention he was tortured; he was beaten all over the body and on the genitals with a water hose.
He was ordered to report back to the Crimes against the State office on 8 January 2004 at 8 am and was made to wait until 10.30 am to meet the Chief Prosecutor. When he met the Chief Prosecutor he was ordered to return on Sunday, 11 January 2004.
On Wednesday, 7 January 2004, he was questioned by an integrator called Abd Al Latief. He was question regarding charges made against him, they are:
Instigating students
Illegal occupation of a room, with other students, that is used by a guard
Destruction of a banner belonging to the Student Support Fund
Statement by Waiel
"After I was arrested and taken on a pick-up truck to the Headquarter of the Arm Forces I was kept there briefly, then they changed the vehicle transporting me. I was taken to another pick-up truck to the National Security Agency (NSA) offices near Farouq cemetery. When I arrived there they tied me to a chair, blind folded me with a shirt and they started beating me up. I was hit on the genitals and one of them hit me with a water hose. One of the officer threaten to rape me he said "last time we shaved your head and we made you dance like a women this time I will rape you"
The beating and threats continued for 2 hours, they stopped beating me when they felt that I was tired and exhausted. At around 4 am I was taken to the Crimes against the State Office and remained there until the evening and then my family, lawyers and SOAT staff arrived."
Background
On 5 January 2004, the NSA arrested Waiel Taha and Yousif Fat'h Al Rahman from outside Khartoum University Student Union Building on Nile Street. They were arrested by force by 9 individuals on a Toyota pick-up truck, 2002 model. Yousif was separated from Waiel and was taken to the NSA building near Old Khartoum High School. He was subjected to torture by 5 security officer; he confirmed that he was subjected to the following acts of torture:
- Punched on the face
- Beaten on the sole of the feet and back
- Kicked
- Pressing hard on the stomach
- Forced to drink 3 litres of water using a bottle inserted to the throat
- Strangulation
- Death threats
He was hurled into a road near Mahmood Sharief Station in Buri while his hands were cuffed and was blind folded on 6 January 2004 at 3 am. Currently he is receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
Their arrests followed disturbances on the 3 and 4 January 2004 at Khartoum University between female students and the guards, where the guards beat up the students using metal wires and water hoses at the student's halls of residence. This has led to the injury of a number of students, which led some of them to make press charges against the university guards.
The Khartoum University Student Union (KUSU) was organising a series of briefing and public talks regarding this event and Waiel, is a member and in charge of the Student Accommodation Committee of KUSU, was one of the organisers of these talks.
SOAT welcomes the release of Waiel Taha but condemns his arbitrary arrest and his treatment during his detention and urges the Government of Sudan to stop the harassment of human rights activists and to:
Investigate the torture of Waiel Taha and Yousif Fat'h Al Rahman and bring the perpetrates to justice.
Award compensation to Waiel Taha and Yousif Fat'h Al Rahman for the torture they have suffered during their detention.
Drop the charges against Waiel Taha.
Guarantee the respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of association throughout Sudan in accordance with national laws and international human rights standards.
