I may not be an Art Critic, but I read the two books anyway.
The basic question is: why almost everyone agrees on this post that what Ali Abusin is claiming is TRUE. None of you had occured to him that the man might be "imagining" (to put it mildly) that he is the character of Mustafa Saeed, and why do you assume that what he is claiming about his "adventures in the west" are real stories and not something from his own imagination.
I read Ali Abusin's book, and in my humble view, the man has an "inflated self-image" and an "egocentric male personality", I guess like almost all "Arabic or Eastern" men, they love to brag about their masculinity; in my real life, I have heard a lot of many stories along the same lines i.e. the guy who makes the women (white women, for that matter)fall for him.
To go back to the basic question, what makes "The Season of Migration to the North" a piece of Art is the success of the writer in weaving the threads of the whole story and the characters involved (not just Mustafa Saeed) in the time and context where the events are taking (or not taking) place.
