Appeal to the international community to save the Fur from Genocide
Fur Diaspora Association (FDA)

Seems unsatisfied with the attacks of Arab militias supported by its troops and individuals from Arab countries (i.e. Saudis and Libyans) on the villages and towns of the Fur, the Sudanese government is preparing to bomb Jabel Marra, the home region of the Fur. The Fur Diaspora Association (FDA) has received news that the Sudanese government has brought military helicopters to Nyala and Fashir, and sent 13 trucks (KY) carrying weapons (including explosives) to its Arab militia camps in Jabel Gargu, Boni and 'Idalghanam. In each of these camps there are about 5 000 men trained by Sudanese army officers. Moreover, Jabel Marra is surrounded by government troops. The militias are prepared to destroy Shattai, Artala and Bindici. The government troops are set ready to destroy Jabel Marra.
Between October 2002 and January 5, 2003, 109 Fur were killed (some of them were mutilated), over 100 others wounded, tens of women raped and thousands ran to the big cities of the region, thousands of homes were set on fire and thousands of livestock were rustled away. These happened as a result of the attacks by the government soldiers, Arab militias and Muslim fundamentalists from other countries that came to fight for the so-called jihad in the Sudan. The villages that were terribly affected by the attacks in these three months are Kidinyeer (attacked on October 5), Golo (attacked on October 9), Gounda, Elayba, Wastani and Shawa (attacked on November 13), Sabunogna, Turra and Mugjar (attacked on November 24), Teguereis (attacked on November 27), Dumma (attacked on December 24) and Sinkita (attacked both on January 1, 2 and 3). Most of the attacks took place between 4 and 5 am Sudan's local time and the number of raiders is estimated at over one hundred in each invasion. The raiders invade the towns and villages on horseback and camels and are sometimes accompanied by government cars. The village and town leaders are often jailed if their people try to defend themselves and their properties. For example, the Omda (traditional leader) of Teguereis and several of his people were imprisoned in Nyala because they tried to defend their village. Moreover, the Fur intellectuals are followed and harassed by the government security men everywhere in the Sudan.
The plan to bomb Jabel Marra has been set after the Sultan of Fur, Hussein Ayuob Ali Dinar, and some leaders of the Fur held a conference in September in Nyeirteitei (Jabel Marra) in which they decided to defend their people. The Sudanese authorities were invited to that conference. The government which has been systematically practicing ethnic cleansing against the Fur and other indigenous Darfurians since 1990, found the conference and the decisions people there reached as a pretext to spur up the genocidal activities that have already been in place. Therefore, Jabel Marra is surrounded by troops from all the directions and military aircrafts were brought to the cities of Darfur to further bomb the areas that were already attacked several times. Since Muslim fundamentalists came to power in 1989, over 4 000 Fur were killed, many thousands others were wounded, raped and imprisoned several times, thousands of homes were looted and burnt to ashes, most of the cattle, camels and small-stock were rustled away. Moreover, hundreds of villages were deserted and occupied by Arab nomads and some other strange elements that local people suspect to be Al-Quaida members or extremists from Arab countries.
As we are living in the Indigenous Peoples Decade, we strongly appeal to the international community to intervene and force the Sudanese government to stop destroying the indigenous peoples of Darfur. Our resources confirm that the Vice President (Ali Osman Mohamed Taha), governor of southern Darfur (Salah Ali Alghali) and government security advisers vowed to destroy the Fur, one of the largest indigenous ethnic group in Western Sudan, as the preparation for establishing a pure Arab community in the so-called Northern Sudan. The Fur Diaspora Association calls upon the international community to intervene before it is too late.
