To all doctors and friends..name and shame campaignDear colleagues and friends
thanks u for a lot of response following my last letter about the poor medical practice in Sudan
Today I wish to explain to all of u how we are planning to fight this poor medical practice and implement z change inshallha;
1st we need to concentrate on the patient and the doctor and the relation between them and between doctors themselves for self discipline and regulation
The Patient;
education about their charter and rights when they see z doctors are the most important as have been explained in z Medical council law and we can achieve this by using z media and technology[mobile and photo recording} , some of u we ask how u r going to educate population who r almost illiterate and most of them can’t read or write, but I will say if those few who will respond to our campaign they can exert a massive effects on z rest of doctors population and others will learn z message.
FOR THE PATIENT;
1/ Their RIGHTS when they see any medical practioner especially in z PRIVATE sector [WITH MOST CATASTROPHIC AND FATAL MISTAKES], at z time of consultation not less than 1/2 an hour
2/ Explanation of their condition, investigations, treatment options and in terminal illnesses about their prognosis
3/ Full PRIVACY, RESPECT and KIND CARE
4/ Request for COPY OF DECUMENTED CLINICAL RECORDS [CARDS OR DIARY] if needed later for follow up or investigations
5/ Encouragement of Patients and relatives to use z technology to record every thing during consolation and to use FOTO-RECORDINGS [doctors who behave and practice well would not object]
[Other suggestions r welcome from all]
6/ Their rights of COMPLAINING about any short coming from either doctors , nurse or any body involve in their treatment , and how to do that as the laws r there as well as z medical council plus others legal places
7/ encouraging the public about z need for postmortem for any unexplained death and support of the forensic doctors to carry their work with full transparency and credibility
DOCTORS;
1/ PROFESSINAL HONESTY and Justification of investigations and treatments and their limits and the need to CONSULT others ASAP to avoid any delay or complications
2/ adequate consolation time
3/ Respect and Kindness
4/ full privacy
5/the way they write their qualifications on their private clinics [some write their membership to a society or journal as a qualification, also those who r dead/sick [z late DR Mohamed Alhasssan Elteyb] or absent or those who their name on z clinic post but using other juniors or colloquies to maximize profits like Ashmaik
{I am sure there are more we can add on, plse send ur suggestions]
the leaflets will easily be distributed and I am happy to print them in millions and I do have z people on z floor who will distribute them to public in gathering places like mosques, transport depots and any public , family gathering[ wedding or death or any other gathering and in school , universities work places like STADIUMS and any where
we can also use the news papers [I have an Idea of publishing news paper deals with medical practice on the web first but we can extend it as a print out, to deal with every things about z patients, disease, good and bad doctors and clinics and medical advice etc]
we can use the media and I have already contacted some brave journalists as well the TV and Radio esp. Mango to spread z word
we will carry a campaign of NAME & SHAME those bad medical practioner and clinics and hospitals[ only with documents] this will first be on z web site and later in z print out
By rallying good peoples from SOLICITORS and LAWEYERS, JUDGES, GOOD DOCTORS AND OTHER SENIOR CIVIL Servants AND ALSO THOSE IN THE PARLEMNT AND GOVERMENT to help with this campaign
we also need to ENCOURAGE JONIORS DOCTORS AND OTHER HEALTH PROEFFESIONALS about WHISTLE BLOWING about any wrong doing supported by documentations and recording by using mobile multimedia like mobile fones, digital cameras and videoing and the need to come forward and not to worry about and INTIMIDATIONS from seniors about their career development
also BY educating and helping juniors and other good doctors and clinics and encourage them to carry on good medical practice and even to reward them by praising them in z web site and z print out
we need to change the logo THE BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT TO THE BOSS IS ALWAYS WRONG UNTIL PROOF OTHERWISE as I have so many stories u will see down.
we need to star now by collecting information and stories about any wrong doings and fatal mistakes in z recent yrs and we have to mention names [if u r sure about z truth] plse as this quite
important. u can do that by recording things from relatives , collecting all z necessary documents and by listening to any joiners near u as those on z front lines and u will hear all z HOORIFIC and most Painful stories and z worse medical fiasco which can happen anywhere even in places like Somalia and Iraq.
we need to establish a COMITTEE to INVESTGATE and asked for COMPENSATION FOR Z VICTIMS OF Z BAD MEDICAL PRACTICE OVER Z LAST 10 YRSSPECIALLY THOSE WHO HAVE ALL Z DECUMENTS AND RECORDS OR FAILED TO GET ANY PRESCUTION VIA LEGAL CHANNELS BEC OF Z COVER UP FROM Z CULPRIT AND THIER COLLEQUES.
today I will start by telling u these;
1/ Young patient 18 yrs old died on table while operated on for laminectomy [ no indication, no diagnosis , patient has numbness in his legs] he died within 40 minutes into z operation , no explanation given , cause of death is circulatory failure but z junior doctor mentioned that z BLOOD HAS BECOME DARK IN COLOUR] very obvious ANAETHETIC FATALITY , during z operation carried by General Orthopedic Surgeon In Police Hospital[ no name bec as I need to see more documents] , very aggressive consultant , does not teach or train his juniors, and treat them like foot soldier , I was told when this house officer who was z 3rd assistant asked him about what he was doing as a learning process he replied aggressively shouting at her to keep silent and the poor doctors who was shaken and frighten had to carry on walking in z dark with a boss who was absolutely does have a clue about what he is doing.
no comments or investigations about this incidence, a related incidence I have seen for this surgeon , on of my friend had a carpal tunnel release operation resulted in more damage to his hand and now he is no longer use it efficiently.
2/ a 35 yrs old female died following a simple abd cholecystectomy as z a senior Surgeon in Ibrahium Malik hospital[ well know CATAS AND HIS SURGICAL MISTAKES , but z COVER UP BY OTHERS SENIORS left him to carry continuing his KILLINGS], Z junior who was assisting him at z time mentioned that, he failed to LIGATE THE CYSTIC ARTERY and he PUT A DRAIN when he started to finish z operation as he can see blood coming while stitching z skin , u know z operation finish at 10 30 am but they moved z pt to z recovery room while continue to drain blood and no decision was made to correct their mistakes only after 6 hrs of continuous blood loss at 16 00 pm and at this stage while she was back on table again and during reopening she died on table and u know z blame went to ANATHETICS as simple as that, here no investigations or explanation given to z poor relatives
also z same Surgeon saw a female in her 40s with breast lump and decided against all z rules to do an incision biopsy and sent her home but to return back with massive FUNGATING ULCERATIVE BREAST. so he decided to do mastectomy , during z operation one of z assisting medical officer felt an maxillary lymph node so he alert him to extend z operation to radical mastectomy as normal treatment for such aggressive cancer but to his shock and surprise Mr. Mustafa replied to him NO NEED AND DON'T WORRY, then carried on his mastectomy , and while stitching z skin one z assistant doctor felt some ruminant of z tumor in z pectorals major, here z Senior Surgeon asked for a another blade and did a secondary incision and excise z left tumor [ do u think this really a surgeon or a BUTCHER] so here z BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT STORY
other stories of others surgeons like operating on Anabatic Thyroid ca and complicated by a puncture to z trachea, patient died 2 days later
Acute intestinal obstruction sent to Alfaisal Clinics for operation in z morning, pt could wait and died overnight [senior What he called himself Vascular surgeon and top prof at z Faculty of medicine KHM], relative of deceased r most Doctors, some of zem surgeons [I need more permission and details to give full story inshalla]
4/ a lady in her 40s seen by a brave registrar and diagnosed FIBROID AND CONFIRMED BY OTHER SENIOR REGISTRAR BUT Z BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT MR Faisal Rahamh said no This Cervical Ca for total hysterectomy, z brave female doctor Tamador said why should we then take smear biopsy and then decide but as z BOSS IS ALWYAS RITE he carried z Operation. while z patient on table , z Brave dr Tamador noted that there was no catheter and even offered to insert one but z boss as he was in hurry and her assistant said no we can carry on , following z operation the lady explained 2 z boss on his round that when she go to pass water nothing is coming out but she always wetting z bed , z clever BOSS told his team including z brave Tamadour OH THIS FISTULA with no REGRET or any Sympathy to what he was done wrong , the response from this brave Dr Tamadour was abrupt by saying to him Sorry I have to Go and she left him and went straight to the Medical director to inform him that she is no longer want to carry on working with this Boss and asked to be moved to other team even medical inspire of her intention of doing obs and gyn, but she had enough
I THINK WE SOULD ALL RAISE OUR HAT TO THIS BARVE YOUNG SOUL AND WE SHOULD GET DOCTORS LIKE HER TO HELP WITH OUR CAMPAIGN inshallh [ I have already making enquiries ]
I am sure there are many stories which will put together on z web site once we establish it inshallh v soon.
what I wanted to say here , we can all change our self to a better position[ building career , wealth having kids and plenty of bright future] BUT THE BIGGER CHANGE FOR WHAT YOU DO FOR OTHERS , PLEASE LETS ALL WORK TOGTHER FOR Z BENEFIT OF OUR PEOPLE BACK HOME , BE MORE PROACTIVE AND POSITIVE AND FOREGET THE NEGTIVITY AND PASSIVITY AS THE REAL CHALLENGE IS STILL AHEAD AND GOD BLESS U ALL WA GAZAKUM ALLAH KELLO KHAIR
