Reports: Israeli delegation arrived in Sudan after coup

Sudan's civilian leadership was detained last week in a coup, with the military coping with unrest
An Israeli delegation visited Sudan in the past week, after the ouster of the country’s prime minister Abdalla Hamdok, according to media reports.
Israel’s Maariv said security officials had confirmed that Israeli officials, which included Mossad representatives, met with Sudan’s military leaders.
Among the Sudanese army officials was Gen. Abdel Rahim Hamdan Daglo, one of the leaders in the coup who also participated in an official visit to Israel several weeks ago. During that visit, the security officials said, no mention was made of Hamdok’s ouster.
Sudan’s military leaders, headed by Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, staged a coup against Hamdok and members of the civilian government last Monday.
Protests against the army broke out, with demonstrations turning deadly as the military cracks down on unrest.
This comes just two years after a coup overthrew long-ruling dictator Omar al-Bashir. A joint transition government made up of military and civilian officials governed the country, which included serious overhauls in policy to bring Sudan out of its economic crisis.
Sudan joined the US-brokered Abraham Accords, normalizing ties with Israel in exchange for its removal from the US blacklist of state sponsors of terrorism.
In return, Sudan received billions in debt relief.
A US official said on Saturday that the Biden administration would “not push” Sudan to uphold the normalization deal with Israel. However, the visit by Israeli officials seems to indicate that such pressure is not necessary.
While the coup drew international condemnation, Israel has remained silent.
