Thanks for this nice article.
Your article, as I see it, focuses on the authenticity of that “hadeeth” as well as the implication of sacred “ wisdom” on society. You have barely discussed the content of the “Hadeeth”- regardless of if it was authentic or not. Although it might not be in your intention to do so, I would like you to share with us you opinion as:
- To what extend does a disturbed family would affects its children’s lives.
- What is the role of the society in the whole issue?
I believe it is un indisputable fact that the family has the greatest impact on one psychological well-being. The first 5 years of a child’s life play a very important role in his/her life later on. However, a disturbed family is usually a disrespected family in the many societies (alcoholism, criminality, prostitution, drug-addiction, etc.) While the behaviour of the family affects its children, the reaction of the society towards that family and its children would have a very deep impact, not only on the children’s behaviour, but also on their ability to same the same fate of the family.
One day I had a patient who was more than 60 years old. His Norwegian mother got married to a German soldier during the German occupation of Norway in the 2nd WW. He had a hard childhood while he was in Norway (the great majority of children born to Norwegian mother and German soldiers have mental illness because the had a tough childhood... their mother were considered as traitors and they were called name and discriminated against. It is a hot political issue, where huge a amount of money is to be paid to them by the state). Later, he went to Germany with his parents and he attended the fall of Berlin in the hands of Allied. He watched people died and buildings fell on them.
We I talked to him and asked him how long he has had mental illness, he smiled- he really smile- with great sorrow in his eyes that is still printed in my memory- (and I am not a sentimental man, at least not at work). He said: ( almost all my life), and he told me his story. He added that his mother had a mental illness.
Now, who is to blame: his mother’s genes? The society?
