Solidarity Memorandum in Support of the Writer, Extraordinary Ambassador for Gratis Culture, Member of PEN of Austria Hon. Dr.Ishraga’s Appeal Against the Block of Her Facebook Account by the Facebook Administration
In 10 Feb.2015 Dr.Ishraga Mustafa Hamid had received a letter from Facebook administration, in which it conveyed to her that she is "ineligible to use Facebook". The letter stated that "for safety and security reasons", Facebook could not provide additional information as to why her account was disabled, and that the decision is irrevocable.
We the undersigned express our utmost solidarity with Dr.Ishraga Mustafa Hamid considering the background of her contributions,
Dr. Ishraga is an Austrian citizen of a Sudanese origin. She is a renowned activist in the fields of human rights, gender and culture, and a prominent public figure in Sudan. She has contributions acknowledged, recognized and honored by some Austrian NGOs and Ministries, for instance. Catholic Women Movement, Ministry of Education, and by both African and Arab world, like Naji Namaan Foundation, for Gratis Culture for which she is an extraordinary ambassador. Ishraga utilizes her caliber and stardom for the benefits of the people of these worlds through successful networking in gender, peace, culture and art fields.
She is a winner of incentives, awards and prizes in recognition of her distinguished roles as a writer, a researcher and a part-time university Lecturer, in above mentioned fields.
We the fans of Ishraga M. Hamid the signatories to this e. petition believe that Dr.Ishraga has considerably contributed through her Facebook activities to different intellectual, cultural, social sciences and art spheres, she has inspired us much through continuous discussions on different topics, she provoked our thoughts and introduced us through her creative writing to new themes, her publications were translated into some languages including German, and she had many articles published by Austrian magazines, which she makes available for free to her readers through Facebook whenever possible.
We consider the decision to be a serious violation of her right to freedom of expression.
We believe that Facebook declaring "closing her account is final", violates Dr Ishrag’s right to appeal, as it violates her right to explain her arguments in regard to the decision.
We believe that the decision should have had been made in accordance with just and legal reasoning, and should have had considered prior notification in line with the terms of Facebook itself, which could have had made her ready to handle the situation and prevent her from severe and harmful effects of the decision.
We urge the Facebook administration to review its decision and reopens her account. |
