Dear Esther,
The Government of Chad thinks we aren’t watching.
This week, Chad was poised to welcome Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir into their country for the fourth time since a warrant was issued for his arrest by the International Criminal Court. But hours before the meeting, Chad postponed the invitation.
This was the second time in the last month Chad has pushed back a planned meeting. Chad’s foreign minister tried to spin the delay saying that it “was not pushed back because of international pressure to apprehend Bashir”. But with the conference postponed once again, we think otherwise.
Let’s keep the pressure up! Join us in demanding that Chad stand with countries like Kenya, South Africa, Botswana and Uganda who have pledged to arrest Bashir should he set foot on their soil. And tomorrow we’ll be arriving at the Embassy of Chad to tell them that.
We’re responding to Chad’s unwillingness to stand for the victims of the killing in Darfur by projecting massive images and video stories from survivors onto the Embassy of Chad. We will make it known in plain sight that any government who welcomes Bashir is complicit in his crimes.
