Quote: Sudan's detained ex-security chief in hospital: family (AFP) – 3 hours ago KHARTOUM — Sudan's former intelligence chief, detained for an alleged plot to sabotage national security, has been taken to hospital with heart trouble, his brother said on Thursday. Salah Gosh was one of 13 people arrested on November 22. "We fear for his life because he already had heart problems and now he is in the hands of his enemies," Abdelaziem Abdallah told AFP. He said the security agency confirmed on Thursday morning that Gosh was in hospital. "Later they allowed his wife and two of his daughters to see him" at the Al-Amal Hospital linked to the security apparatus, Abdallah said. Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman has said Gosh and high-profile members of the armed forces were detained in connection with the plot, which "targeted the stability of the state and some leaders of the state." Officials have given only vague details, but analysts say the incident is linked primarily to hardcore Islamist military officers, highlighting turmoil within the 23-year regime of President Omar al-Bashir. Gosh spent about a decade leading the powerful security service until Bashir replaced him in 2009. |
