Quote: Greetings!
I am an assistant professor at UC Berkeley and next year I will be teaching a year-long "Field Methods" course in the linguistics department, where graduate students learn to conduct research on languages which lack significant documentation. Martha Saavedra gave me your name as someone who may be able to help. I am looking for a native speaker of a minority language, and am particularly interested in Sudanese and South Sudanese languages. This is an excellent opportunity for a spouse or a recent immigrant to supplement their income. Would you mind sending the advertisement below out to groups or individuals who might be interested? Thank you!
Best wishes, Peter

Quote: ----Advertisement---- Employment Possibility for a Sudanese or S. Sudanese Immigrant
Fall & Spring Semesters 2011-2012 (end of August through early May)
8-10 hours per week, approx. $20 an hour
The UC Berkeley Department of Linguistics is seeking to hire a speaker of a minority (e.g. unwritten) language!
You must be able to come to UC Berkeley 2-3 days a week.
No experience needed! You just have to be a native speaker of the minority language. (i.e. not Arabic!) We are especially interested in languages spoken in the Nuba mountains and the Blue Nile, though everyone is welcome to apply!
The person hired will work with linguistics faculty and graduate students in a year-long field methods course in which we study an unknown language in both the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters (approx. 8-10 hours per week, approx. $18.41 per hour, they must be available BOTH semesters and have the appropriate visa that allows the person to work on campus).
PLEASE contact me as soon as possible ([email protected]) if you are interested, or if you know someone who might be appropriate to work with us! If you are interested, please send your name, nation of origin, a list of the languages that you speak indicating your native language, how long you have lived in the USA, and you or your spouses' current job or where you are studying.
***THANK YOU***
