الشبكة تحذر من استمرار انتهاكات حقوق الانسان في السودان

Sudan Human Rights Network Gross Human Rights' Violations in Sudan The Sudan Human Rights Network has received confirmed and up-to-date reports on the continuous vicious assaults unleashed by Sudan's security personnel upon peaceful protesters. On March 21, 2011, scores of university students were brutally beaten and many of them were taken into detention. Some of the young men and women have been taken to undisclosed detention centers. In light of Sudanese security's historically blatant disregard for the law, SHRN is gravely concerned for the detainees' safety. Hence, it is necessary for SHRN to issue an urgent call to all human rights advocates to demand the immediate and unconditional release of all peaceful protesters. It is imperative to urge the Sudanese Government full compliance with and observation of universally accepted inalienable human rights. The Sudanese government is a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which unambiguously uphold the fundamental freedoms to all Sudanese. Sudan's Transitional Constitution stipulates the rights of free assembly and peaceful manifestation of political dissent. SHRN calls on the Sudanese government to immediately refrain from all forms of intimidation and violence. It is also crucial for the government to reveal the whereabouts of all detainees and to grant them unrestricted access to their lawyers. On March 16, 2011, media sources reported that security personnel had used unwarranted violence against student protesters at Alfashir University in Darfur. As a result, one student, Jamal Adam Mustafa of the College of Education, was killed and several of his fellow students suffered injuries. SHRN demands an immediate and impartial investigation into the use of deadly force against university students who were peacefully demanding attention to their justifiable complaints about abominable living and working conditions. The Sudanese government is called upon to heed the rising demands for change that have been outlined by the groundbreaking revolutions of its neighboring nations. Sudan, as the first democratic country in Africa, has a responsibility to, not merely uphold rules of law, but to observe and protect the democratic freedoms of its citizens.
