The Merowe Dam will displace more than 50,000 people from the Nile Valley to the Nubian Desert. The project will tear apart communities, increase diseases, threaten livelihoods, and have far-reaching environmental impacts. The 174-km-long reservoir will inundate an area of Sudan rich in history dating back 5,000 years. Dissent has been met with violent repression, yet the affected people continue the struggle to have their voices heard.
