Dear Mohammed E Sulieman and Ernest Thank you very much. My opinion is based on some limited reading of Islamic scholars. I know that there are some equally fanatic christians as Sayed Mohamed has given us some examples. In Egypt, the christian coptics always react in extreme manner because of the treatment they receive from the extremeist Muslims and the appearance of support they see as coming from the Egyptian government. In the Sudan, the Sudanese christians, who are mostly from the South, have never been seen as extremists, so were Sudanese Muslims in the fifties, the sixties and the seventies of the last century, although government after government has pursued the policy of islamization and and arbization in the nmarginalized areas of the Sudan. The issue of religion in the Sudan, has always been in the back-burners, until the coming into power of the dictator Nimeiri, who made religion an issue, and the Muslim Brothers of al-Turabi exploited it. Until that time I remember Muslims and Christians lived in harmony. The present problems were the creation of that era. It has therefore become apparent that the unity of Sudan is in the balance because of the NIF/NCP policies. Southners or Christians, generally, believe that if there is no way for democratic secular Sudan, they would prefere the disintegration of the Sudan as we all know it. Hence it is for us Muslims and Christians to recognize the danger of this Islamic extremism and the danger it poses for the unity of our country.
