Are we selfish?
|
Each of us lives a certain lifestyle. It reflects our beliefs and values. It is deeply influenced by families we are belong to, the community and the society we are part of and by the religious interpretation or political philosophy we chose to follow. If any of these influences allow me to think that I am more important than you, the message you will receive from me will be that I think you are somehow "less" than me. . continue.........

We all experience love in some form or other. There are different degrees of love, and people reach different levels of loving. Some people choose away of life, in which they give and receive a lot of love; other people choose to give and receive much less love. Something else that is common to all human beings is selfishness; we are all selfish to a greater or lesser degree. The more room we give to selfishness in our lives, the less room there is for love. continue

Supposing that you are a good friend of mine, and we have been spending time together for years, our lives are interlinked. Close friendship involves some degree of love; so to some extend I love you. But suppose I think that somehow I am more important than you. What would call the bond between us? Would you call it real love? Or mutual convenience and satisfaction? Or affection? Or habit? Or fulfilling of need? contiue.......

I think that whichever way you would label the re relationship between us, it would be generally agreed that the more you place yourself "above" me by considering yourself more important than me, the less real love can exists between us. We might meet everyday, we might share projects and plans, we might enjoy being together, but the growth of relationship between us would always be held back and limited by my feeling that I was superior to you. Feelings of superiority hinder the growth of love in the richest meaning of word. Feelings of superiority go hand in hand with the less rich types of human interaction..

When we talk about "darkness" without using the actual word "light" , we are actually saying that "light" exits, if we say that something is "more important" without having to use actual words we are saying that something else is "less important" or "the lest important". If I bring into this board the style of thinking that could produce the statement " I am the most important person in this board ", I am also suggesting that there is also a" least important person" here.
