Dear Ibrahim Read your articles on Sudan Nile just now and decided to say Helo. This is my 9th year in England. )n 29 Sept 2010 I shall become 65 years old, my official retirement date.Staying till then is simply to improve my pension!! I am trying my best not to be 'aalah' on family or friends when I become frail!!
I left home Nov 1995 to Saudi Arabia, spent three years there, then moved to the UK Sept 1998.What did I achieve: 1. Ten years away from home unable to visit, even when my deceased mother became terminally ill. 2. My three sons found it extremely difficult to adapt here. Their education was the main reason why I moved to the UK. They achieved way below their academic potential. They became extremely frustrated. The eldest two are now in Sudan 'hunting' for jobs. 3. My youngest son, at university currently, was 4 years old when the security thugs searched the house and took me away. He, my deceased mother-in-law, Batoul, her sister and two eldest children,Ammar & Ghassan, all had to watch all that in silence and fear. 4. Most disappointing was the political atmosphere amongst the Sudanese opposition in the UK. I became one of the few civilians who declared their membership in Sudan Alliance Forces(SAF), while still in Saudi Arabia, 1996. not only that, in 1998 I agreed to chair it's branch in the UK, openly! In 2001, for various very specific reasons, I became completely disillusioned with: Sudan Alliance Forces, The National Democratic Alliance and, sadly, Elnigabat Elshariah'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5. In 2001 I decided to retire from 'partisan politics' and find other ways and means of fighting for the cause of 'elgubush' in Sudan!! 6. After some encouragement by the late Prof. Mohamed Saeed ELGADDAL I managed to 'jot' on paper and then dictate on over thirty tapes, my memories 1961 (Khor Taggat) to 2001 (UK). 7. I own a a piece of land in Elazhari area, Khartoum, 'Khitta Iskaniah', 500 sq. metres. Building it depends a 100% on stability of the American economy and, therefore, the British one!! This is not at all delusional. I have a mortgaged house here, bought at a cost of £120,000 in 1999. Imroved it to push my debt to £150,000. If house prices don't crash, I shall be able to sell it at £250,000. The difference of £100,000 will be enough to build a 'reasonable bait' in Elazhari. 8. If the house prices crash, I shall retire: with children's education 'half cooked', no house, >30 tapes of memories and most important reasonable health of all family members, except raised blood pressure in Batoul and me,'baseetah'!!!
Why am I telling this story now? a. Reading your articles in Sudan Nile brought flashbacks. b. Your names are in those tapes, amongst other friends/comrades. c. It is ALL to do with the Fundametalist Gang. Do you know, my youngest son, Mazin, did not talk to me since Sept 1990, when I was searched and arrested, till 1999 in the UK. When I checked with Batoul I dyscovered what I suspected, 'professionally', nobody explained to him what was going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first arrest, Sept 89 t0 April 90, was a quiet, 'decent arrest' by 'Amnelsudan'. Mazin probably noticed nothing. They visited me in Port Sudan Prison. While crossing a busy road he almost got knocked over by a fastly moving car.
During the second arrest by 'Amneljabha' things were ofcourse different. Five months on a roof of one of Security Headqurters, only Batoul was allowed to visit twice, in their presence. Mazin and the family visitted at Kober Prison, witnessing the strange environment and knowing only that I deserted him and in prison, why? he did not have a clue. He, therefore became: 'electively mute' for almost 10 years.
This is simply to highlight possible, forgotten crimes of this regime. The impact of arrests on families, needless to mentiopn that of torture, it speaks for itself.
Please feel free to quote me on all this/ publish, if you feel it is worth that.
God bless you.
