Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced today that the Sixers have signed un-drafted free agents Deng Gai and Shavlik Randolph. Per team policy, terms of the contracts are not disclosed.
Gai, a three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, started all of his 100 career games with Fairfield University (Conn.) and averaged 12.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.44 blocks per game. As a senior, Gai was named first team All-MAAC, led the nation in blocks (5.5 bpg) and blocked 10 or more shots in three contests. Originally an early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-9 forward participated in the 2004 NBA Pre-Draft Camp in Chicago before withdrawing his name.
Randolph played in 92 career games (36 starts) with Duke and averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds on 50.6 percent shooting. The 6-foot-10 forward also averaged 1.4 blocks per game and ranks No. 7 on Duke’s career blocked shots list (129 blocks). An early entry candidate in the 2005 NBA Draft, Randolph was a part of two ACC Championship teams (2003, 2005) and one Final Four squad (2004) as a Blue Devil. ____________________ 76ers website
