Idreis Ali is one of the first Nubian writers to bring up the importance of the issue of identity within the left movement in Egypt. Always, the Egyptian Marxists water down this issue or only focus on the national discourse assuming that it would be solved when a progressive regime takes power. In a long discussion with this great writer in Cairo, he strongly assured that the left in Egypt should deal with oppression in Nubia right now...
Dongla is a very special novel that not only Nubians or Communists need to read... it's for every oppressed in the world... I heard that he was on a new novel that might "get me in a real trouble this time" as he said My sense it's on the corrupt islamists whom he described in his 1998 novel " إنفجار جمجمة: الهمج سلالة معاوية والماليك
However, I was a little bit confused by one of his new article against hagag Adol, the other popular Nubian writer: http://www.al-araby.com/articles/998/060226-998-opn05.htm I have a feeling that his motivation in writing such judgmental article was based on personal gridges against Adol I felt during my discussion with him in Cairo in 2004 Thanks, Usta Atif
