Dear Samau’al:
I have expressed this opinion on all the posts that called for saving Sudaneseonline, I see no harm in repeating it here.
Whether we like it or not Sudaneseonline is a mirror that reflects the state of the educated and the intellectuals in the Sudan. You can control or mend it as much as you are able to control those educated and intellectuals. While at Sudaneseonline I saw those who had no tolerance for the riffraff splinter and make their own boards where they have full control; the results have been groups of people of like minds who may differ within their own perspectives. I am not saying that those boards are useless, contrary to that, they are the best places to look for ideas and good intellectual debates. Sudaneseonline enjoys having intellectuals and others and as such became the mirror of the real life.
I find the exchanges on this boards beneficial for the following reasons:
1- I will not be fooled by pretences of politeness from people who are not polite in the first place.
2- I am face to face with aspirations of those who aspire to be leaders and the fits they throw when they are challenged. Of course those fits are so telling of their leadership.
3- To the extent that people let go of the reins that hold their tempers I am able to distinguish who is who.
4- Different people post various and different materials, from the funny to the serious to the unbelievable, if it were restricted to a selected few it is going to be a boring boring place.
In short those ugly tempers are not without benefit for those of us who want to know who is who (one visit to such posts is enough), especially that Sudaneseonline does reflect the behavior of some leaders from many disciplines. Even those who want their ideas to reach us, and for one reason or another choose not to be members, do send their messages to be published on Sudaneseonline.
Consider yourself walking or driving through the city of Khartoum, look at the subject lines and choose to go where you feel comfortable. Look at the names you may find names that you do not want to listen to even if they were polite. Choose the places that you want to go to. Eventually and without much a do those of us who do not find the inhabitants of Sudaneseonline unwelcoming will shut up.
Calls for discipline contributors have been a constant on this board since I joined they range from the racist to the sexist and what is in between them, without evoking any change, they may in themselves turn into those ugly posts that we are complaining of.
Ps the posts you are complaining of may have the highest number of visitors on the board, what does that tell you about the educated Sudanese? Shamar lovers?
