I doubt the veracity of the news that Northerners require visa to enter the South. The person who wrote this news item has no proof to show us except the fact that Ugandans and Kenyans enter the South without visas. This ignorant journalist does not know that Kenya and Uganda have been home of millions of southern refugees in the last forty years of war. Even those Kenyans and Ugandans alleged to have entered the South without visas are traders who render goods and services at affordable prices to the southern population. During the war years the Northern government occupied towns such as Juba, Malakal and Wau and which were donminated by Jallaba traders, the prices of their goods were stronomical. In addition, women were raped under day light by Mujahideen and the army. It is a well known fact that the prices in Rumbek, Wau, Malakal and Juba did not start to come down until the arrival of Ugandan and Kenyan traders.
In the last few months there was a news item published by Sudaneseonline.com that there were millions of Moroccans and people from North africa observed accross a belt starting from Geneinna to al-Jazeera. No southern, at least not me, raised hell and accused the North of throwing the door wide-opened to Arab immigration. Now some stupid person writes about the requirement of visa for northerners and the whole Board cries "Wolf". Southerners are immediately accused of breaching the peace agrement and and are issued a veil threat of the immenent collapse of peace. However, nobody mentions about the breaches this NIF government have committed from day one until now. This is a double standard that says the North has the right to dishonor every agreement it enters into with South and southerners are supposed to kneel before the northerners for the job well-done! It is high time to recognize that those days are gone and will never come back again. If the purpose of this Jallaba immigration to the South is to influence the result of the referendum, then southerners should stick their feet on the ground, and say: enough is enough.
The North may refuse to carry out the Naivasha peace in full but there is one thing they will not be able to do: delay, influence or prevent the referendunm taking place at all.
